Computer Game Scriptwriter for VIE: Virtual Island of Entertainment

“Shirl has immense creativity and a great sense of keeping plot details straight… I recommend her work to others.” – S. Coallier, Vice President Product Dev
I was a script writer and narrative designer for the multi-player online computer game and virtual world VIE: Virtual Island of Entertainment for two years. Launched in 2011, VIE sought to create a player experience with unfolding episodic plotlines like an immersive t.v. series, including much material I conceived and wrote.
As both a writer and creative consultant, I invented world-building concepts and an original cast of complex characters, collaborating with a team of concept artists and developers to realize locations, character creation and animation, costume design and quests. My characters evolved in their own plot arc while balancing interactions and story pacing with a separately conceived cast and plotline created by a co-writer. While working on VIE, I created story pitches, production treatments, detailed plot arc outlines, dialogue and hundreds of pages of cinematic scriptwriting on multiple “episodes” for this project.
In addition, I reviewed and revised written materials created by other members of the design team, such as side quests, tutorials and minor dialogue. I also wrote a complete mini-game from a brief concept, and hundreds of compelling descriptions for a catalog of clothing, accessories and other items purchasable with real cash.
